Last fall I bough several pounds of meat from a family farm up north that raised their animals humanely, and it's been really great. It's also been really great that my parents let me use their deep freezer to store all the meat. Still, sometimes I need a thawed chicken breast or a pound of beef right now. Being January, most farmer's markets are out. But - horray! - our local grocery store Shnuck's sells grass-fed beef and organic chicken.
Obviously buying locally and from smaller businesses is ideal, but I also think it is important that humane meat options are actually viable options for people, and having them at the neighborhood grocery store goes a long way toward that end.
